Positive: Spotless room and very good size. Bright and cheerful. The hotel itself has a colonial feel with historic touches. The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly - very eager to help. The spa was comfortable and the massage service was good quality. We were very impressed by the breakfast, which was the best we’ve had so far in Vietnam - a wide selection of freshly-cooked items, in a beautiful big dining room.

Negative: The hotel was lovely, but perhaps a little far away from the main sights - although everything seemed easily walkable within about 30 minutes.

Positive: We chose the hotel when we were cancelled by another property in Hai Phong at the last minute claiming it was 'for renovations.' We wanted a hotel with character and were pleasantly surprised. the property was in excellent condition, and the staff superb, friendly and helpful, particularly one person named Hoa. They found out it was my birthday and suprised me with a cake, a nice touch.

Negative: Our room had the shower above the bath, which is never a good idea for older people.

Summary: Great 3-day stay, good value for an up market hotel and lovely people
